On Saturday 7 March four Rapid Creek Landcare Group members attended an interactive Tools for Monitoring Biodiversity Workshop at Riyala. We were particularly interested in learning how to use camera traps to monitor our Alawa Oval site at night. We were also given a demonstration on how to use iNaturalist to record species found at our sites. The day was co-hosted by Land for Wildlife Top End and LandcareNT. Participants were shown how to set up camera traps, how to select an appropriate location, and how to manage data once collected. However, a scheduled field trip to test the cameras had to be cancelled because of a torrential downpour. Riyala is a 20-acre property on the Elizabeth River near Noonamah established in the early 1980s. Traditional fire management practices have restored a monsoon rainforest ecosystem to the property.
